College is rooted in the psyche of the American public and the world. However, according to studies for the past two decades, university grads face the unemployment line more than noncollege grads. It is easy to Google search for college grads on the food stamp line. Even a search on your computer would find professors and some physicians needing welfare. Apprentices receive one-on-one training at a lower wage, like the hours required to get an airline pilot license. You can start at a higher rank, work with your family, and bypass school.
Apprenticeships are not limited to fields like sports, military, airline pilots, and physicians during residency. They have the potential to be applied to a diverse array of jobs in the real world, potentially even replacing the need for a degree. This versatility, a key aspect explored in my book 'Education Mania, 'particularly in the chapter titled 'University the New Doctor, ‘makes apprenticeships such an intriguing and viable option for career development.
Consider the example of an apprentice airline pilot. Their training is not confined to classrooms; they train in simulators and learn from someone with extensive experience. They start their training in a cockpit, side by side with a seasoned pilot. The FAA sets the regulations for these apprenticeships, ensuring a high standard of training. This practical, mentorship-based approach, which could also be applied in business and other brick-and-mortar schools, offers a unique and valuable learning experience, providing reassurance of its effectiveness. The military is another example of a field that trains there. Troops are in basic training, and they go on to train more. The military constantly trains for war—it practices how to shoot and trains under someone with more experience.
In conclusion, you can apply apprentices to more jobs than I talk about in this article. You do this by investing in apprentices over schools. You do this by putting more money into this. That is in the state and federal budgets. The private sector should invest in training over education. Even universities could train professors as apprentices. That is, instead of doing the five-chapter essay. They could learn to do studies by the number of hours and learn to write books and publish journal articles. Hopefully, apprentices over education will be allowed even when the sun becomes a white dwarf and humanity leaves the solar system.
